It’s Beyond Time to Do Something

June 19, 2015 — 3 Comments

Excuse me while I take a rare moment to be serious.

Due to the recent tragedy at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina, I have made the decision to use this platform (my website) to reach as many people as possible to plea for action. Something must be done, or else nothing will be done. Rhetoric and commentary are useless. We need to do something.

This tragedy has sparked the need for action on numerous issues such as racism, gun safety, mental health care, and hate speech, to name a few. So take your pick and speak out and/or take action (and feel free to pick more than one).

You need to know somewhere to direct your anger? No problem, click here for a list of all U.S. Senators and their email addresses.

Are you at a loss for words on what to say? No problem. Copy and paste the message below into an email to each U.S. Senator.

Dear Senators,

You should be aware that many of us are outraged by the recent terrorist attack on Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. And one of the many questions we are asking is, “How could you let this happen?”

No matter your stance on gun control, you have the power and authority to make the senseless and tragic gun violence stop.

What will you do to help protect us from future gun-related tragedies?

Will you hold a press conference or submit a quote to a local or national news organization expressing your ideology about gun control or the right to bear arms? This does nothing but fan the flames of an already divisive opinion.

Will those of you that have accepted any form of financial transaction on your behalf from gun lobbyists (practically a legal form of bribery) stand by the NRA, defending an argument that has been proven to be broken with every new gun-related death in this country. This does nothing but ignore the obvious, growing problem of gun control and belittles the victims and their families.

Until there is change, I, as a citizen of this country, hold you personally responsible and accountable for each and every gun-related injury and death.

Until there is change, I will continue to be the voice for those who can no longer speak for themselves.

With kind regards,

By no means am I suggesting that you use the words above. All I am suggesting is we stop complaining and take action. Do you have a suggestion on what we can do? Please share it in the comment section below.

Until then, you’ll have to excuse me because this outraged citizen has 100 emails to send.

Dude. Preach. This whole situation is ridiculous — the racism, the access to the guns, and the complete unwillingness to protect citizens. Glad you got on your soap box. You look good there.

“This type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries.” Pres. Obama. No amount of NRA bloviating can change that simple fact.
